If anyone had told me 2 years ago that I would be writing an article on a killer virus, Covid 19, I would have laughed. However, here we are, fighting a worldwide war between humans and nature.
Like most New Zealanders, I was very complacent until 6 weeks ago. I believed we had managed to eliminate Covid 19 in New Zealand, due to our geographical situation and our strict lockdowns. As time has rolled on, it has become obvious New Zealand was a ticking time bomb, waiting for Delta to strike AND here we are in level 4 lockdown!
Delta is far more tricky than we were prepared for. NZ’s only real defence we had was herd immunity. It is hard to understand why the Government did not push every New Zealander to get vaccinated during Level 1. We had a window of time where we could have reached our vaccine target, with no pressure. Instead, we find ourselves in a race against the virus and back in a strict lockdown.
The closing down of a business is a devastating thing for owners, employees and for clients. As we know, many businesses will be forced to close permanently. Luckily, The Pelican Club has no intention of closing permanently. The Pelican Club will be reopening as soon as Level 2 is announced.
In conclusion, I want to end this article by urging everyone who has not yet been vaccinated to do so. We have no idea what the rules will be when we reopen. One thing I do know is that staff, ladies and clients will feel a lot more confident if everyone is fully vaccinated.
